Probably the best known of the luxury hotels in Nice, this National Historic Monument , built in 1912, is a true palace. Art and architectural pieces from several centuries are exhibited throughout the hotel, including 16th century doors from the palace of the mother of King Henry IV and contemporary sculpture by Niki de Saint-Phalle. The 163 guestrooms and suites are decorated in styles ranging from Louis XIII to Art Deco, and the rooms are elegant if occasionally kitschy. The bathrooms have all been upgraded to include marble fascia, tub and shower, hair dryers. There is a private beach and the hotel is home to one of the best restaurants in town, Chantecler. If you can't afford a meal, at least have a drink in its elegant bar, and rub shoulders with the celebs who come to stay at the Grande Dame of the Riviera.
