The average size of a home purchased in the United States is 1,700 square feet. Mine could generously be called a "cottage," since it is considerably less than that.
Imagine, then, a hotel suite that is approximately FIVE TIMES the size of the average home in the United States, elegantly appointed with silks and rare woods, opening to a terrace that overlooks the Mediterranean sea... The Salon © Hotel Martinez |
It almost defies imagination, but it is real. The exquisite Art Deco-era Hotel Martinez, located on the largest beach in Cannes, France, has turned its entire penthouse into just two 8,000 square-foot suites fit for royalty. Sitting on the seventh floor atop the hotel's 395 guest rooms, the suites, designed for entertaining, have two bedrooms, two full baths, a kitchen, a sauna, and massive living areas, dining room and fully furnished terrace with whirlpool spa.
All guests of the Hotel Martinez can take advantage of state-of-the-art security systems, video-conferencing devices, personal computers and color laser printers, infra-red keyboards, Internet access, fax, remote-controlled heating, cooling and lighting systems, satellite televisions, home theatres, DVD players and a DVD library and games console. Those staying in the Master Suites, however, also have access to a private butler, limousine transfers, open bar and cigar box, and the option of combining the suites to enjoy 16,000 square feet of luxurious space. Opened just in time for the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, the suites incorporate the best of the hotel's Deco style and modern amenities. No detail was overlooked, from the wool rugs covering the teak parquet flooring to the J.M. Franck-designed sofas to the luxurious bathroom appointments. The wood-decked terrace, which offers panoramic views of The Croisette and the Mediterranean Sea, is comfortably furnished and includes a sunken Jacuzzi®.
"No other suites in Cannes compare to the size and calibre of the luxurious master suites of Hotel Martinez," claims General Manager Louis Bottigliero.
The five-star hotel, originally opened in 1929, has three restaurants, a year-round heated outdoor pool, 24-hour room service, and 15 meeting rooms. It is owned and operated by The Concorde Hotel Group and is a member of Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd.
